LOOKING FROM ALL SIDES

I continue to explore different avenues, some work out, some do not, but I think it’s something you have to do to keep yourself inspired and to keep growing as a creative.

Experimenting with completely different mediums and disciplines allows you to discover and see things differently. Like sketching during a brainstorm. Drawing things out literally makes your brain work differently. It is a "cross-cognitive" form of capturing information. Similar to sketching, trying different ways of creating my art opens up new experiences and ideas.

My process when working with wood starts off the same way as my 2d art. The shapes and forms are the foundation and main focal point. They define the composition and the relationships with the other elements that develop. But for sculpture, those forms are what create the entire structure. They are stripped down to the minimum allowing for negative space to interact and define the piece. The challenge is to visualize what it looks like from all sides. And of course gravity.
